Thanks to all you participated in the contest! Congrats to Katie Allen Briggs for her winning entry. I have to agree, it was a pretty bad date. Here are the details…
A girlfriend of mine wanted to set me up with one of her single friends, and so we went to get drinks at El Ranchito as a group. He seemed nice enough, so I agreed to go on a date with him, because, I mean REALLY, what did I have to lose!? He picked me up at my house in a car I later learned was his brother’s. When I asked why he didn’t drive his, he replied that he didn’t have one (a car), and he hadn’t recently moved from someplace like New York City. We went to dinner at an upscale sushi restaurant in Newport Beach and I should have known from the way it started where it would end up. Looking at the menu, he declared that he was going to order for us. I gently stated that we should, maybe, order seperately and “share”. He refused. He then proceeded to order NO raw fish, but rather all cooked fish and california roll variations. His rationale- he didn’t like raw fish! Great, but I do!! From there it only got worse, as dinner came (all cooked fish and no REAL sushi) and he began talking about all of his sexual conquests and how good he was in bed, and asking me about what I liked in bed. I, at this point, was repulsed. Not only was it inappropriate in general, but especially for a first date where he had no idea if sleeping with my dates was something I regularly did. I excused myself to the bathroom and called my best friend, Nikki, updating her on the situation. We hatched a plan for her to call me and say she had been locked out of her house and that I needed to bring her spare key over. About 10 minutes later, she called and we proceeded with the plan. He was IRATE that I would leave after dinner and go home to “help” a friend. The entire car ride home he grilled me about what I was really doing and why I didn’t want to spend the rest of the night getting drinks with him. Once home, I acually did go over to her house in case he was watching me. (He was creepy!!) I spent the night at Nikki’s house and the next morning I had a message on my cell phone that I owed him $40 for dinner, as that was my portion of the meal, as I had not “put out”. REALLY?!?!?! He later left another 2 messages on my voicemail claiming he was still waiting for me to repay him. When I askd my girlfriend about his behavior, she replied “Oh, yeah, that does sound like something he would do”. I never let her set me up again. As I never did call him back and reimburse him for the date, I wonder if he’s still waiting for the money??
I know right about now you’re thinking I made this up, but it’s true- ask Nikki Franklin, she’s the one I called!!
