Where The Men Are.

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Single ladies:

Answer me this…do people offer you suggestions on how you can meet the right man?

It happens to me pretty frequently.  And I am all ears because sometimes the suggestions are actually really, really good.  Last week it was a coworker asking if “I’m fishing in the right pond” and offering up ideas.  This weekend it was a mentor who over Chinese Chicken salad asked, “are you going where the men are?” and had me taking copious notes on potentials.

Here is a list of some of the most recent suggestions:

Orange County Young Republicans (thanks, Dad)

Recreational Tennis League (my serve could really use some work before I venture into real competition)

Meet Men in Summer of  2010 (move to a new place for the summer where the selection might be better)

Go on a Missions Trip (awesome idea…a real possibility…thanks, Shirin)

Get my MBA (I’m open to meeting a guy with an MBA, but I am not sure I want one for myself)

Go to law school (sorry…not gonna happen)

Grade papers at a University library (undergrad only = problem but a graduate program = thumbs up)

Try a new church (done and done)

Singles retreat (possibility…but could not go it alone…who wants to join me?)

Holidate (new tv show on the Soap Opera network…might actually consider it)

Bachelor: On The Wings of Love (never. ever. ever. Now if Reid was the Bachelor…)

Volunteer (fantastic suggestion…looking into it)

Work at a Dude Ranch (only for the summer…need to get over my slight fear of horses first)

Happy Hour near office buildings (a suit and a Stella…good combo)

Superbowl Ad (if I start saving now…)

What can you ad to the list? I’d love to know:)

Date Night.

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

If I was going on a date tomorrow night, I’d want to go to…Habana!

Located at The Lab in Costa Mesa, Habana is a great spot for a date night for many reasons.

First:  The Mood.  Habana has lighting that makes everything look better. Candles plus the glow of old movies projected on the wall and chandeliers equals a very sexy atmosphere. Booths, nooks, crannies and an inviting patio give you plenty of options for cuddling and canoodling.

Second:  The Menu. Traditional Cuban food that won’t disappoint.  Entrees large enough to share and best eaten family style. Start with Fried Avocados. Try a salad. Sample the Ropa Vieja (or just about any entree). Finish with the Banana Fritters. You’ll be in love, trust me.

Third:  The Mojitos. Amazing. And strong. If you’re not into Mojitos then opt for the Sangria.  Equally good (I’ve been told).

Take someone to Habana and I can almost (almost) guarantee there will be a date number two, or three or thirty three.

Crush Catalyst.

After last night’s slightly bitter post about set ups, I thought I’d do some searching for a good way to handle a set up.  I think I’ve found a winner.

If you’re looking to set up a friend who is single, here is a great article on how to do so in a healthy way.

If you are single and have a friend who mentioned they have someone they want you to meet, feel free to pass this link along to light a fire under their feet.
