The Holidays.

The Holidays.

They are here.  Actually, they’ve been here for quite sometime now, but my holiday events have just kicked themselves into high gear.

I’ve been to 6 holiday parties/events this month and tonight was my 6th and final event.  I had 4 this weekend alone! All that remains are the family events.  Our whole family will be together this year, including some extended family, and I can’t wait to enjoy Christmas with them.

As much as I do love this time of year, it can be difficult to navigate the holidays as a singleton.  Having to RSVP to an e-vite and include the number attending for all to see (ONE!), dragging the tree up three flights of stairs all by your lonesome, driving through neighborhoods all by yourself because you want to look at Christmas lights, but can’t get anyone to go with you…

Okay.  The picture should be clear at this point.

However, in addition to the aforementioned negatives of being single during the holidays, there are many positives as well.

Here are a few:

1. Christmas parties can be a great place to meet all kinds of new people.

2. You only have ONE work party to attend.  (However, if you work where I work you look forward to your holiday party, which includes good times with Rock Band and a chocolate fountain.)

3. You can buy gifts for whomever you want and spend as much (or as little) as you want.

4. When someone gives you a half-pound box of chocolate you can eat every last piece in one sitting and no one will get mad at you for not leaving them any.

5. Or, if you’d like, you can take one bite out of those same pieces of chocolate and put them back in the box if they are coconut flavored or have gel-like fruit nastiness spilling out of them.

6. You don’t have to decide whose family you’re going to spend Christmas with.

7. No cheesy Christmas card pictures to pose for in silly matching outfits.

8. Potentially kissing the cutest guy at the party under the mistletoe.

9. Leaving a party when you want because you’d rather be at home in your pajamas watching a “Project Runway” marathon than trudging through another small talk conversation about how great the artichoke cheese dip is and how beautiful the tree looks.

10. You can wear the same outfit to every event and no one is going to question our wardrobe choices.

I wanted to start with the good news…tomorrow we look at the bad news.
